Liverpool head to the San Siro on Tuesday night with as Arne Slot’s troubled side face a pivotal Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

There has been plenty of noise off the pitch heading into the game too, following Mo Salah’s outspoken interview on Saturday, and the Egyptian has been left out of the squad for the game.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the clash…

How to watch

The match will be broadcast live in the UK on Amazon Prime, with coverage beginning at 7pm.

Kick-off from the San Siro is scheduled for 8pm UK time tonight.

Recent form

Inter’s Champions League journey hit a bump on matchday five, falling to a 2–1 defeat at Atlético Madrid courtesy of a stoppage time winner. Yet that result does not carry the alarm of Liverpool’s earlier collapse against PSV.

Cristian Chivu’s side had been perfect in Europe before that loss, navigating matches against Kairat, Union SG, Slavia Prague and Ajax. Their consistency leaves them fourth in the overall 36-team standings, level with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain and only three points behind leaders Arsenal.

Their domestic form has been equally impressive. Since the Atlético setback, Inter have recorded three consecutive wins across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one. Their latest outing was a commanding 4–0 victory over Como.

The Reds, meanwhile, sit 13th in the league phase standings with nine points from five matches. Liverpool’s chaotic 3–3 draw at Leeds United on Saturday was overshadowed almost entirely by Salah’s extraordinary post-match interview, in which he claimed his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down, sending shockwaves through the club.

In the Premier League, A 2–0 win at West Ham failed to spark a revival, and was followed by frustrating draws with Sunderland and Leeds United. The latter included a 96th-minute equaliser that summed up Liverpool’s recurring fragilities.

Injuries and suspensions

Inter Milan: Manuel Akanji (doubt), Matteo Darmian (out), Denzel Dumfries (out), Tomas Palacios (out), Raffaele Di Gennaro (out)

Liverpool: Mo Salah (out), Federico Chiesa (doubt), Cody Gakpo (out), Jeremie Frimpong (out), Giovanni Leoni (out)

Predicted line-ups

Inter Milan (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, Acerbi, Bastoni; Henrique, Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Sučić, Dimarco; Martínez, Bonny

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Bradley, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Jones; Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitiké; Isak

What’s been said?

Cristian Chivu (Inter Milan)

“We will face a great team and try to do what we’ve been doing, always pushing ourselves further.”

Arne Slot (Liverpool)

“We know we are going to face a very strong team tomorrow and that’s always the biggest challenge there is in a game: it is always the team you face and individuals you face. They have a very disciplined team, a very experienced team as well and a lot of quality.”
