Big spenders take on debutant manager

London City Lionesses embark on another Women’s Super League campaign this evening when they play host to Manchester United.

The big spenders have been up to their usual antics in the transfer window once more, landing some of women’s football’s star names.

Alexia Putellas, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner, has arrived from Barcelona, while Mary Earps, the former United shot-stopper, now keeps goal for Eder Maestre’s side.

Michele Kang has backed her Basque manager heavily once more, with Nicole Anyomi, JAnni Thomsen, Mapi Leon, Kadidiatou Diani, Rosa Kafaji and Daniela Arques all joining too.

United, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their fourth-placed finish last term, but they will do so under new managment.

Eva Olid has taken the reins at the club, after a five-year spell at Hearts.

The Spaniard led the Scottish club to a first ever title last term, and now, she will make her bow in the English top flight.

The Red Devils have made seven signings since Olid’s arrival, with Phoebe Lear, Erin Baxter and Andrea Medina all coming in at the start of July.

Hollie Stone-Armstrong followed, before Janina Leitzig, Monica Jusu Bah and Rebeca Bernal all signed ahead of the curtain-raiser this evening.
