Historic rivalry renewed after 14 years

West Ham take on Millwall for the first time in 14 years as the ‘Dockers Derby’ is reignited after a 14-year hiatus.

The fierce rivals have not faced each other since 2012, the last time that the Hammers were in the second tier, as one of world football’s most bitter conflicts sparks into life once more.

The Irons were victorious the last time these two met, back at the Boleyn Ground over a decade ago.

Carlton Cole and Winston Reid netted for the home side, while Liam Trotter snatched a strike for the visitors.

Kevin Nolan also saw red in an ill-tempered affair that would turn out to be the pair’s last for a while, as Gianfranco Zola’s side were promoted back to the top flight via the play-offs.

Now, Nuno Espirito Santo will get his first taste of this storied derby, with Alex Neil in the opposite dugout.

Both will be desperate for a victory, as, along with local bragging rights, will come a huge three points as both sides battle for promotion to the promised land of the Premier League.
