Newcastle United will be eager to bounce back from their midweek Carabao Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Manchester City as they host Brentford on Saturday evening.
The hosts currently sit in 11th, while Brentford occupy seventh, just four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool. However, a win for Newcastle would see them draw level on points with the visitors.

Newcastle have endured a bruising past week. The holders’ defence of the Carabao Cup came to an abrupt end as they were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by Manchester City.
The second leg came just a few days after their last league outing, in which Newcastle were comfortably beaten 4-1 away at Liverpool, despite the visitors taking the lead at Anfield.
Brentford, on the other hand, last played away at title-chasing Aston Villa and secured a mightily impressive 1-0 win, despite playing over half the game with 10 men, following Kevin Schade’s red card.
Eddie Howe’s side will be seeking their first league victory in a month while Brentford have won four of their last five away games across all competitions.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe: “It’s funny, the last two games, if you look at it and actually really analyse the games, which I know you guys do, you’d go, we haven’t been outplayed throughout the games, we’ve been in the games.
“Losing is such a difficult feeling, you have to deal with the defeat. You have to evolve. We are trying to do that in a quick turnaround. The main thing is the players enter the new game in a positive frame of mind.”
Brentford boss Keith Andrews said: “It’s a special place to play football. The fans get behind their team. It’s a cauldron and it can rattle teams coming to town.
“Our players will have to deal with that emotion and the momentum swings in the game and show a level of calmness, composure and growth to deal with whatever is thrown at us.”
