It feels like it was not too long ago that New York City FC beat the New York Red Bulls, or Red Bull New York, whichever name they go by, in a match. And guess what? It was not long ago that the Boys in Blue won at Sports Illustrated Stadium in the U.S. Open Cup. The 3-1 win happened just a few weeks ago, and now the two rivals will meet again in Major League Soccer.
There is no question that the two teams do not like one another. It does not matter who is on the rosters and where they are in the standings. The derby is always a gritty and hard-fought match, and the upcoming one will not be different. Nobody wants to lose, and sometimes tempers flare up. That is why it is vital that the Bronx side remains calm and focused, for they cannot let RBNY get under their skin.
Meanwhile, after a seven-game winless streak in the regular season, the Pigeons have now won their last two games. But the Red Bulls have also won their last two fixtures. The confidence boost and the similar quality of the rivals could lead the result to go in either direction. In fact, this is another game that NYCFC is playing against a team with the same record, for they are both 5-5-3.
Now, normally, in a busy few weeks of matches, rotation would be a great thing for the Boys in Blue. Alas, this is the Hudson River Derby, and Pascal Jansen must put out the best of the best. The question is whether he will go with the same lineup from these past two wins. It might depend on whether anyone who was injured is ready to go. The lineup will be critical, and NYCFC could win again with the right players.

Fans just have to cross over into New Jersey to watch the Hudson River Derby.
If NYCFC fans cannot watch or listen to the game, then they can follow along via MLS Soccer’s timeline and NYCFC’s X account. Additionally, the club will post updates here and there on Facebook.
The Pigeons played their final game at home last weekend before the World Cup Break, but fans could still attend the Hudson River Derby if they do not plan on traveling to any of the other road fixtures. NYCFC can always use the support, and there is nothing better than a derby.
