How to watch NYCFC and time of CF Montréal game as team tries to end streaks

At this rate, all fans can do is shake their heads when it comes to New York City FC’s five-game winless streak in Major League Soccer.  The Boys in Blue are 0-3-2, making their current record 3-3-3.  Sure, the team is without Alonso Martínez due to his ACL injury, but after the fantastic start, it was clear the Pigeons could be a competitive team.  Based on the roster, they should be a top side in Major League Soccer.

Instead, poor results mean that the Bronx side will try to break the winless streak when they head out to battle CF Montréal on the road. In fact, not only will NYCFC try to end the winless streak, but they will also try to end the three-match losing streak against a team that the Pigeons should beat on paper.  Montréal finished last season in 13th place in the Eastern Conference and currently sits there today.  Poor roster construction and the inability to find the right head coach have caused the team to struggle.

Meanwhile, NYCFC had dominated the Canadian side for years until that fateful Decision Day match in 2024.  Before then, the Pigeons had only lost twice to Montréal.  Now, they are dealing with three losses in a row to the team, and could suffer a fourth over the weekend.  It is vital that this does not occur, especially since they do not want to be winless in their last six MLS fixtures.

What makes the game even more vital is that NYCFC almost ended the streak on Wednesday against FC Cincinnati.  The Boys in Blue were up 4-2 as they entered stoppage time, but a poor defense led to the 4-4 draw.  Hence, if they lose to Montréal or even share the points, then fans will not be happy and might start turning on the players and coaching staff.

Final notes

NYCFC must win, but Pascal Jansen should consider rotation once again.  It should just be a few players, like Talles Magno for Hannes Wolf.  The Brazilian almost had the winning goal against Cincinnati, but of course, fans know what happened.  Keaton Parks should also return, moving Kai Trewin to the center-back position and bringing Raul Gustavo to the bench.
