How to watch NYCFC and Toronto FC in a Friday night matchup, the time, and more | OneFootball

It is not often that New York City FC and Major League Soccer teams get to play on Fridays these days.  Despite more variety in when the team plays in 2026, the Pigeons still play most of their matches on Saturdays at night.  So, it is nice that the team will have a slight change in their typical schedule when they welcome Toronto FC to the Bronx.  The Boys in Blue will want to win their third match in a row since returning from the World Cup break.

NYCFC is coming off an incredible win over Chicago Fire FC.  The Bronx side won 3-1 and continued their unbeaten streak against the team, as they last lost to them in 2021.  And now, they will face another side that they tend to dominate as of late.  The Pigeons have won their last six fixtures against Toronto in all competitions, last losing to the Canadian team in 2023.  They would like to keep that streak alive, especially at home.

Plus, the Reds have struggled again this season, as they have done so for most of the 2020s so far.  They have a 3-7-7 record and have not won since April 4 of this year.  Then, the team, who used to compete for the MLS Cup trophy constantly, has not made the playoffs since the 2020 COVID season.  Since then, they have finished no higher than 11th place in the Eastern Conference.  It is kind of shocking that the team used to be one of the best in MLS and subsequently had that fall.

Therefore, NYCFC should win this game on paper.  But they cannot fall into the trap of underestimating the Reds.  Look at last season.  The Pigeons won games against teams they were not expected to, and then lost some that they should have won.  It is vital that the players stay at the top of their game.

Final notes

Friday is Harry Potter Night at Yankee Stadium, for July 31st is Harry Potter’s birthday.  Fans can rep their houses, and the first 8,000 supporters will get a scarf featuring one of the four houses of Hogwarts.  Hopefully, NYCFC will have some content featuring the players where they reveal which house they belong to, and maybe there will be some magical moments as well.
