European heavyweights collide in crunch semi-final tie

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich clash tonight in the first of the Champions League semi-finals.

The European giants will meet for the 16th time on the continent, with Bayern leading the head-to-head with nine victories to Paris’ six.

The Bundesliga outfit are fresh off a rollercoaster quarter-final victory over Real Madrid, where Luis Diaz and Michael Olise swung the tie in the Germans’ favour late on.

Paris, the reigning European champions, have beaten two Premier League sides en route to the last four.

They thrashed Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate in the first knockout round before a 4-0 decimation job of Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Ousmane Dembele starred in the second leg at Anfield, notching a brace as Luis Enrique’s men coasted into the semi-finals.

On the injury front, Paris are expecting Vitinha back fit after he missed the last two Ligue 1 games with a heel problem, while Bayern will be missing Serge Gnabry - ruled out for the season and World Cup with a thigh injury - as well as Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl.
