How to watch, time, and more of the clash between NYCFC and Chicago Fire FC | OneFootball

Nine players were on the injury report when New York City FC resumed play on Wednesday in Major League Soccer.  There were plenty of questions regarding whether the team could get anything from the match.  And to the surprise of likely many, the Pigeons found a way to secure all three points on the road and start the second half of the season.

Now, NYCFC will return home for the first time this summer to face Chicago Fire FC.  The Boys in Blue have a tough test ahead of them, for the Fire is having a solid season.  The team is in third place with four more points than the home team.  Plus, they recently signed star Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been one of the best scorers in the world for many years.

On the other side, NYCFC has their newest Designated Player, Bénie Traoré.  The forward, who is filling in as the striker from now on, did not have the best first start against Columbus.  However, not every new player adjusts to MLS right away.  Any criticism of him should be held back, for he has literally played one game.  Plus, perhaps the energy from the home crowd will make a difference.  After all, he and his teammates were in a hostile environment.

Meanwhile, there is some concern entering the match, for NYCFC is continuing their home struggles from last year.  The Bronx team is 3-3-2 between their fixtures at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, and they were 11-6-0 in 2025.  Historically, that is not as good as the Pigeons usually are at home.  Again, Chicago will not be an easy team to face, but the pressure is on for the home side to again earn three points.

Final notes

One player that stood out in the Columbus match was James Sands.  The midfielder made his season debut after returning from his loan deal and had one of his best matches as a center-back with NYCFC.  He might be the answer right now to partner with Thiago Martins, especially after Jonathan Shore’s fantastic performance as one of the defensive midfielders.
