How to watch, time, and more of the NYCFC game with the Philadelphia Union | OneFootball

After a poor loss to Club Necaxa to end the Leagues Cup in a whimper, New York City FC is back in action in Major League Soccer this weekend.  The Pigeons will welcome the Philadelphia Union, who they beat earlier in the season thanks to a late goal.  The difference between then and now is that the Union struggled in the first part of the season.  Now, they have won their last three MLS games since the season resumed.

This makes Philadelphia a more threatening opponent.  Moreover, NYCFC has lost the last matchup at Yankee Stadium.  Sure, they won the home game last year, but that was at Citi Field.  The 2024 game in the Bronx was a travesty that saw them lose 5-1.  The Boys in Blue do not want to repeat that, let alone lose.  At the very least, the Union also only won one match in the Leagues Cup.

It will be interesting to see who is available for the game.  It appears that the injury report is slowly improving after Kevin O’Toole and Keaton Parks returned during the Leagues Cup.  Then, if Thiago Martins cannot play, will Max Murray continue to start?  He has been impressive, but as seen throughout the season and even in the Leagues Cup, the backline, regardless of who plays, can be problematic in allowing goals that they should not allow.

Of course, the hope is that the backline does well against Philadelphia.  After all, NYCFC needs to be at the top of their game if they want to move up in the Eastern Conference standings and be competitive when the postseason begins.  And yes, the Pigeons have to make it first.

Final notes

There have been multiple not-so-great days this summer when it comes to the weather.  It is supposed to be a beautiful day on Saturday, but unfortunately for the Pigeons, Sunday will be wet and humid.  Sometimes, the schedule does not work out well for NYCFC.  Fans should likely pay attention to the forecast.
