Italy, Sweden and Denmark are among the nations in action tonight

A huge night of World Cup qualification action has arrived with eight European nations battling to secure four spots at this summer’s showpiece in North America.

After successfully winning their play-off semi-final ties - some in more dramatic fashion than others - Bosnia-Herzegovina, Czechia, Denmark, Italy, Kosovo, Poland, Sweden and and Turkey are all one win away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Italy overcame Northern Ireland last Thursday, thanks to goals from Sandro Tonali and Moise Kean to set up a World Cup play-off final in Zenica against Bosnia, who beat Wales on penalties.

The winners of this tie will join Canada, Qatar and Switzerland in Group B, facing one of the tournament hosts in their opening game in Toronto on June 12.

Elsewhere, Czechia - who knocked out the Republic of Ireland on penalties - face Denmark in an intriguing showdown where the winners will advance to Group A alongside Mexico, South Africa and South Korea.

Turkiye, often billed as a tournament dark-horse, will be expected to beat Kosovo away from home and the reward will be a place in Group D with the United States, Paraguay and Australia.

Sweden, meanwhile, were dismal in World Cup qualification and only made the play-offs by virtue of their performance in the Nations League as Viktor Gyokeres’ goals handed them a lifeline.

The Arsenal striker scored a hat-trick against Ukraine in the play-off semi-final to set up a showdown with Robert Lewandowski’s Poland in Solna.

Home advantage could prove crucial for Sweden - who will be without Liverpool’s Alexander Isak and Tottenham midfielder Dejan Kulusevski through injury - though Poland have plenty of experience to achieve a positive result.

Group F at the 2026 World Cup awaits the winners who will join Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.

How to watch World Cup play-off finals

TV channel: In the UK, Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Italy, Czechia vs Denmark, Kosovo vs Turkiye and Sweden vs Poland will be broadcast on Amazon Prime PPV.

Coverage of all four matches starts at 7.35pm BST ahead of kick-off at 7.45pm and a subscription costs £2.49 per game.
