It has been an extremely difficult return to the Championship for Saints, who parted company with previous manager, Will Still, ahead of their trip to Loftus Road.

The 32-year-old received his P45 on Sunday evening following a 2-0 defeat to Preston North End at St Mary's, following a run of just two wins in his 13 league games in charge, only one of which came after the opening game of the season.

As such, German interim boss, Tonda Eckert, oversaw matters for the South Coast outfit in West London, as they went in search of a crucial three points in order to kickstart a run of momentum heading into the looming international break, whilst Sport Republic's latest managerial search continued in the background.

With Saints entering the encounter in 21st place, many were intrigued to see how they would fare against Julien Stephan's side, who have hit a poor run of recent form after a largely impressive prior run in September and early October.

However, the travelling contingent would be the ones leaving W12 in a buoyant mood, as Saints recorded their third win of the season as Robinson and the recently impressive Leo Scienza made it 2-0 after the break, before Rangers' summer recruit, Rumarn Burrell, made it a nervy final 17-plus minutes with his fifth of the season.

Unsurprisingly, it was a win which meant an awful lot to those connected to the newly-relegated side given their prior struggles, with the 18-year-old at the front and centre of the post-match celebrations.

Much has been made of Robinson's potential at just 18 years of age, particularly at a club synonymous with developing homegrown stars or foreign exports that have gone on to have starring Premier League careers, such as Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Luke Shaw.

The versatile creative prospect made four top-flight appearances last term, before continuing his first-team breakthrough under Still, albeit the former Saints boss opted to manage his minutes rather cautiously.

After previously netting with a strong header in the 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on August 17th, Robinson was played through by Adam Armstrong, before skipping away from two QPR defenders to hit a fierce strike past Paul Nardi on 55 minutes, marking just his fifth start of the campaign with his second goal of the season.

Whilst the three-point haul only pushed Saints up to 19th, it could be a crucial success in the context of their season, which were Robinson's thoughts post-match on Instagram.

"Happy to contribute in an important win !!," he said. "We keep pushing."

Amongst the plethora of supporters in the comments was his former teammate, Tyler Dibling, who completed a hefty £42m switch to Everton in late August after bursting onto the scene at St Mary's with four goals in 44 appearances.

The 19-year-old England youth international issued the message of, "Yes the boy 😍," in support of Robinson.

Another player in the comments section was Robinson's currently sidelined midfield teammate, Shea Charles, who has been ruled out for a period due to a hamstring issue.

The Northern Ireland international has also been an impressive performer in a difficult start to the season for the Reds, and he replied: Love it."

Southampton must build momentum amid managerial search

It cannot be understated how much of a pivotal victory it was for Saints last night, and they must look to build on it against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon, albeit the Owls have picked up two recent draws against West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City.

Several names have been linked with the current post at St Mary's, although it has been claimed that sporting director, Johannes Spors, is looking down the route of a German-based replacement for Still.

Of course, clubs such as Huddersfield Town, Norwich City and Leeds United have had recent success in this regard through the appointments of David Wagner and Daniel Farke, although it remains to be seen who Spors could lure from the continent to take over.

However, Tuesday's result showcased a mix of robustness and quality that still oozes amongst the squad when they are full of confidence, which supporters will hope continues in the long run.
