How Velo Clube are shaping up to face Corinthians in Paulistão 2026

Corinthians faces Velo Clube on the night of this Sunday (25), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), at the Agnelo Bendito Castellano Stadium, for the fifth round of the first phase of the 2026 Paulista Championship. The Alvinegro currently occupies eighth place in the tournament with five points – five goals scored and conceded. Only the top eight advance to the knockout stage.

But do you know how Velo Clube is coming into the match? Central do Timão brings you a summary of the team’s situation from the interior of São Paulo. In the current edition of the state championship, Velo has four points – one win, one draw, and two losses – with one goal scored and three conceded, occupying 13th place out of 16 teams in the championship.

In their debut, in front of their fans, they drew 0-0 against Botafogo-SP. In the second round, the team coached by Pintado visited Ponte Preta at Moisés Lucarelli and won by the minimum score. In the last two rounds, however, the Rio Claro team did not earn any points, as they lost to Portuguesa away, 2-0, and to Guarani at home, 1-0.

Velo Clube returned to the top tier of São Paulo football in the 2025 season – after 45 years – and managed to remain in the elite last season. Last year, with a group stage format – unlike this year – the Rio Claro team earned 13 points, finishing last in Group D (São Bernardo, Palmeiras, and Ponte Preta). However, the team was not relegated, as the two worst campaigns – Inter de Limeira and Água Santa – collected only seven points.

For tonight’s match, according to ge.globo, the team has two absences: defender Gabriel Mancha (suspended due to a third yellow card) and forward Lucas Duni (muscle injury in the thigh). Therefore, Velo Clube is expected to start the match with: Marcelo Carné; Ynaiã, Gabriel Mancha, Marcelo Augusto, Betão, and Zé Mário; Luiz Otávio, Rodrigo Oliveira, and Sillas; João Lucas, and Daniel Amorim.
