Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has said he will not make any ‘guarantee’s over the future of Alexander Isak this summer.
Isak has a long list of admirers across Europe after another excellent season at St James’ Park. The Swedish striker has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season and was last week nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award.
Liverpool and Arsenal have been name as suitors for the 26-year-old, though Newcastle would demand a British transfer record fee for the player.
It has been suggested that Isak could leave St James’ Park if Newcastle fail to secure Champions League qualification. However, the Magpies are in a favourable position and will seal their place in Europe’s elite with a win over Everton on the final weekend.
Howe, however, has refused to give guarantees on Isak’s future but reiterated his determination to keep Newcastle’s best players at the club.
“I never make those guarantees about any player,” Howe said following Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal.
“It’s not to do with Alex’s future, I’d be foolish to sit here and do anything like that. We want to keep our strongest players. I have said that as long as I’ve sat in this seat.
“We have to keep our strongest players and bring in more good players to make us stronger because of the ambition of the club and everybody connected with its long-term success.
“That’s the only way we can try to get that.”
