Former Peterborough United midfielder Archie Collins is wanted by seven clubs across the Championship and League One this summer

The summer transfer window is officially open, players have been officially released, and teams across the EFL are making moves on an hourly basis, as one player in particular is attracting more attention than most following the recent expiry of his contract.

Peterborough United stumbled to an 18th-place finish in League One last campaign, with the Posh finishing just four points above the relegation zone, in a season they will be hoping to put firmly behind them.

The Posh have already undergone some big changes since the season ended, unveiling their new club crest, whilst announcing the release of each of Tom Lees, Jacob Mendy, and Archie Collins.

Collins, in particular, will be a huge loss for the club, and as the midfielder prepares for his new challenge next year, he has the pick of the clubs to decide between this summer, with the race for his signature intensifying.

Collins, 26, is one of the hottest prospects on the free agent market right now, with the midfielder attracting interest from numerous clubs across the EFL, including the Championship and League One.

The Englishman came through the ranks at Exeter City and joined Peterborough back in the summer of 2023, where he became an ever-present at the Weston Homes Stadium across the next three years.

During his stay with the Posh, Collins racked up 159 appearances from the middle of the park, rarely missing a game during his stay with the club, and in fact, having rarely missed a game across the past six years.

His 38 league appearances during the 2021/22 campaign are the least number of league appearances he has made over the past six years, with an exemplary injury record.

146 games in League Two, 174 in League One, and continuing to progress over that period, Collins could make the jump to the Championship this summer, with Alan Nixon reporting via Patreon that each of Millwall, Watford, and Portsmouth are all interested in his services.

However, Nixon also states that League One Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford United, Huddersfield Town, and Reading are providing competition for his signature, with the battle set to intensify after previous links to Leicester, Pompey and the Owls.

According to Nixon, Collins is set to decide his next destination shortly, though with no indication on where that will be, it's up in the air for anyone to guess.

The Englishman could well fancy testing himself in the second tier at this stage of his career, as at 26, a chance to join another Championship side may not come around again.

Though each of the aforementioned League One club's will harness their own chances of becoming a second tier club sooner rather than later, with promotion in their sights next year.

Collins is certainly not short of offers to decide from, as a decision on where he will be playing his football next season is expected imminently.

With Collins set to make a decision regarding his future soon, clubs across the EFL will be waiting in anticipation to find out his choice of destination.

The midfielder has been among one of the best and most consistent midfielders in the third tier for multiple years at this stage, and should he choose to stay in League One, whoever wins his signature is getting a major coup.

At Championship level, Collins is still an unknown quantity, though given his level of performances in the third tier, there is little reason to believe he can't seamlessly adapt to a higher division.

Millwall, Watford, and Portsmouth will have eached pitched strong reasons as to why they are the right destination for Collins, but who will prevail, at this stage, remains to be seen.
