Despite being favoured to make an instant return to the Championship, the Terriers struggled to find their feet in the third tier, finishing in 10th under a combination of Michael Duff and Jon Worthington.

A horrendous run of six straight defeats at the end of last term rather summed up a dismal campaign for both the playing squad and supporters, with Lee Grant stepping into the hotseat in an attempt to transform their fortunes.

It’s the 42-year-old’s first full-time professional job, with the Yorkshire outfit taking an almighty gamble that he can help deliver a promotion push at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield Town hit roadblock in Nahki Wells pursuit

Huddersfield Town target Nahki Wells has outlined his ambition to remain a Championship player after departing Bristol City.

The Terriers are reportedly keen to reunite with Wells after he left Ashton Gate on the expiry of his contract, with Bradford City also interested in securing his services.

Journalist Alan Nixon recently revealed that the Bermuda international favours remaining in the Championship ahead of a move this summer, believing he still has what it takes to be successful at that level after being an established figure in the second tier over the past decade.

Owen Goodman set for Huddersfield Town medical

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman reportedly underwent a medical last week ahead of a loan move to Huddersfield Town.

A report by London World has detailed that the 21-year-old is set to sign on the dotted line for Huddersfield, with the Terriers believed to have beaten Bolton Wanderers in the race for his signature.

The Eagles shot-stopper spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon, featuring 45 times out of the 46-game campaign.

It’s unclear why the move is taking so long to be announced, but Goodman is set to compete with Lee Nicholls and Jacob Chapman for a starting spot if all goes well on the final details.

Lee Grant sets testing demand for Huddersfield Town squad

As per a report by Yorkshire Live, Huddersfield Town boss Lee Grant has admitted he is going to “ask a lot” of his squad this season as the Terriers look to have a successful campaign.

The Terriers have already landed six new players so far this summer, with Ryan Ledson, Marcus Harness, Sean Roughan, Joe Low, Josh Feeney and Murray Wallace all entering the building.

Speaking about the arrivals of Ledson and Harness, Grant said: “We feel Ryan has all of the capabilities to come and add to what we’ve already got.

“We spent a lot of time and did a lot of due diligence on that for everybody, Ryan is no different. We feel like he’s one of those personalities that is going to set high standards, is going to be a connector within the group, so we’re really looking forward to seeing him apply those skills socially, and of course on the grass as well, hopefully to really great success.

“Again, I’m in no doubt that Marcus’ skills, both as a person, his training habits, his intensity to his work, and of course the skills that he can bring on a matchday are going to be vitally important for us this season.

“We’re going to ask a lot of Marcus – we’re going to ask a lot of all the guys, but certainly we’re going to have really high expectations of him, and I think he’s tremendously looking forward to the opportunity to come to a club that is in a really positive place, and hopefully for him that aligns with where he’s at.”

Grant added: “The conversations we’ve had leading into him signing were very much about Marcus focusing on his bigger goals, his wider journey, and what he thinks and would like to achieve going forward now.

“We’ve set some lofty ambitions for that, but he won’t shy away from those. His work ethic, and his ability to really graft and set his target and aim for it, that’s one of his skills, so I’m looking forward to seeing him achieve that hopefully this year.”

Don Goodman outlines Huddersfield Town promotion prediction

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, pundit Don Goodman believes it will be a difficult challenge for Huddersfield Town to gain automatic promotion given the strength of clubs dropping down to the third tier.

Goodman said: “Having appointed Lee Grant as head coach, Huddersfield are moving fast in the transfer market.

“I like the business they’ve done very much. It really shows ambition and if I were a Huddersfield Town fan I would be getting slightly excited.

“Automatic promotion, that's going to be a challenge because you look at the calibre of clubs that are in there that you would expect to be at the top end. Blackpool have had a bit of a go, Bolton Wanderers I expect to do better. Cardiff City should be up there, regardless of their off-field problems.

“Luton Town came down obviously, and you'd expect Peterborough to do better.

“Plymouth have got Tom Cleverley in charge, and I think Rotherham will have a bit more of a go. Stockport were strong last season, Wigan are being a bit more ambitious, and Wycombe are coming off a great season.

“So, I wouldn't be pinning my colours to the Huddersfield Town mast for a top-two finish at the moment, but I would certainly be expecting them to challenge for a play-off spot.”
