Chelsea beat Brentford at the weekend, and it was hardly a classic. But as Liam Rosenior’s first Premier League game in charge, there were certainly some interesting talking points.

On the London is Blue podcast they were focusing on what they liked from the new coach, and they decided his substitutions, make early and decisively in changing formation, were good.

“I like what he did with the subs yesterday. I think you needed a way to figure out a way to get Enzo Fernandez closer to goal,” presenter Nick Verlaney said.

“Damsgaard dropping deeper was creating a 3v2 situation. The [midfield] looked overwhelmed at times, and I think that third midfield option in Andrey Santos coming on was huge, huge for the way for the game was being played.

“Largely because I think there was just left playing directly through us, having to go around us instead. If you look at our wing options, they’re maybe not as strong as we’re used to seeing. I was pretty pleased with that sub.”

We had kind of expected Santos to be starting in that role anyway – maybe we start to see that now.

Joao Pedro scored at the weekend, but admitted his season so far hasn’t been “great.” We hope that coming back to fitness and a new attacking concept under Liam Rosenior will help him find his feet a little easier in the weeks to come.

JP has a fresh start under the new manager, and will be hoping to impress with more minutes against Pafos this week. He did score a goal on Saturday, but it does feel like Rosenior is still going to prefer Liam Delap at the moment.
