Blackburn Rovers are set to announce Gary Rowett as their new manager, and the length of his contract has been revealed.

Blackburn Rovers are closing in on the arrival of Gary Rowett in the dugout at Ewood Park, as their hunt for a new manager looks set to come to an end in the coming days.

Rovers have been without a manager for over a week now, after Valerien Ismael parted ways with the club on deadline day following an incredibly difficult first-half of the season, and a January transfer window that left the Frenchman without the striker that he wanted.

The Lancashire outfit remain in the relegation zone, despite victory over Sheffield Wednesday in their first game without a head coach just a day after he left BB2. However, they were beaten 2-0 by Norwich City at the weekend, and they currently sit 22nd in the Championship table.

Nevertheless, Blackburn should have a new manager in charge on Saturday as they make the trip to West London to face QPR at Loftus Road, and now the length of his contract has been reported.

How long Gary Rowett will sign with Blackburn Rovers for as appointment nears

Leicester City had also shown an interest in Rowett after they sacked Marti Cifuentes last month, and the former Oxford United and Derby County boss has been highly sought-after over the last week.

However, it looks as though Blackburn are set to win the race for his signature. Alan Nixon has reported that Rovers are pushing on with a deal to bring the 51-year-old to Lancashire.

Rowett will sign a two-and-a-half year contract at Ewood Park, and his first task will be to continue the club's relatively strong away form this weekend against QPR, as Rovers look for their sixth victory on the road this season.

However, the real challenge will be at home, where Blackburn have won only three times in 2025/26. With Leicester currently ahead of the Lancashire side on goal difference only after their point deduction, there is still plenty of time to turn their campaign around.

Gary Rowett has plenty of Championship experience

After a really difficult 12 months that has seen Rovers go from a team pushing for the play-offs to one fighting for survival in the Championship, bringing in a manager with second tier experience and a no-nonsense attitude is vital.

Rowett brings exactly that and his record in the division is strong. This is despite a difficult spell with Oxford earlier this season, and he has found himself at the right end of the table on several occasions - most notably with Derby.

He took the Rams to the play-offs in the 2017/18 campaign, although they were beaten by Fulham over two legs in the semi-final. The Bomsgrove-born manager came close to the top six with Millwall previously as well, while he has experience towards the bottom with the U's and Stoke City.

Rowett's stubborn style of play will be incredibly effective for Blackburn, and he could be the man to help take them to safety. It also offers continuity from the pragmatic approach of Ismael, and Rowett's ability to pick up instant results, make his sides tougher to beat and successfully battle against relegation could make him a huge hit at Ewood Park.
