Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has downplayed his team's unbeaten run, with their highly anticipated clash against seven-time African champions Egypt looming.
South Africa stretched their unbeaten streak to 27 matches after dispatching Angola in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener on Monday.
Asked about the record, Broos expressed pride but stressed that lifting the prestigious continental title remains the main priority.
“This is a nice record, but it's not less or not more. So, I don't look at that and the more matches we will be unbeaten, the shortest we will be to defeat. This is normal, so it's not for that [unbeaten run] that we are doing it to be more and more unbeaten,” he said.
"We just want to win every game and that's our philosophy that we try to show also on the pitch like we showed it in the second half [against Angola].
"So, again, it's very nice, we are very happy with it but if you ask me whether you want games that you are unbeaten or winning AFCON - I think you know already what I will answer you. So, again, it's nice to know that [record] and it's nice to see that but for me it's not more or not less.
Bafana will lock horns with the Pharaohs on Friday, 26 December, with the top spot in Group B on the line as both teams are level on three points.
