Hugo Camberos, More Complete and More Influential

Although it was not the result Guadalajara initially wanted, the team had to settle for a draw against Pachuca in Jornada 6 of the Apertura 2026, missing the chance to take all 3 points. However, the match also provided some positive signs from a team that, game by game, is beginning to find greater consistency within Gabriel Milito’s ideas. And among those signs, Hugo Camberos stands out.

The rojiblanco youngster has become one of the players who best represents the adjustments Guadalajara has made in recent weeks. Starting from the left wing, Camberos does not necessarily operate as a wing-back, but rather a few meters farther forward, as an attacker looking to receive out wide, attack space in behind and then get involved centrally. This adjustment has allowed him to maximize several of his key strengths.

Camberos provides width and depth on the left, but he also has the freedom to drive inside when he finds space. His ability to change direction and attack the gaps forces the opposing defense to constantly make decisions: step out to him, close down his run inside or hold their position. In any of these situations, Hugo’s movement can create space for his teammates. He showed that once again against Pachuca.

An assist that sums up his evolution

Roberto Alvarado’s goal came from an individual play by Camberos. Hugo received the ball out wide on the left, took on his marker and, with an outstanding move, left his opponent on the ground before lifting his head and delivering a precise left-footed cross. ‘Piojo’ only had to arrive in the right spot to tap the ball in and turn the play into a goal.

Beyond the assist, the play summarizes much of what Camberos is currently bringing to the team: individual ability to beat defenders, awareness of space, the capacity to gain ground and precision with the final pass.

His numbers against the Tuzos back up his influence. The attacker recorded 2 key passes, created a big chance, provided an assist and completed 17 of his 22 passes (77%). He also had a 71% completion rate on passes in the opposition half, completing 10 of 14, showing that he is becoming increasingly involved in the areas where matches are decided.

He also found good spaces to combine in short passing sequences, particularly with Efraín Álvarez and Ricardo Marín, creating small partnerships that allow Guadalajara to move forward and find different ways to progress.

Increasingly complete

What stands out about Camberos’ development is that his contribution does not end when he loses possession. Despite starting as an attacker rather than a wing-back, the youngster has also shown a willingness to track back and contribute defensively. Against Pachuca, he recorded 3 defensive contributions, 2 interceptions, 1 blocked shot and 2 recoveries, while winning all 3 of his ground duels.

In other words, his new position has not meant leaving his commitment without the ball behind. At just 19 years old, Hugo continues to add new resources to a game that already stood out for his explosiveness and ability on the ball. Now, he is adding something even more important: interpretation.

He is increasingly understanding when to stay wide, when to attack the space in behind, when to drive inside and when to combine with a first-time pass. He is no longer simply a player who receives, takes on defenders and accelerates; he is becoming a player who begins to read the play before executing it. And that development is turning him into an increasingly valuable piece for Guadalajara.

The draw against Pachuca left the feeling that Chivas were missing that final step to turn their work into a victory, but it also confirmed that Gabriel Milito’s team continues to find answers. Camberos is one of them.

From the left, with greater freedom to attack and an increasingly complete understanding of the game, the rojiblanco academy product is finding an ideal setting to continue developing and, above all, to make a difference with increasing consistency.
