Chivas' 1-2 victory over Seattle Sounders in their final match of the Leagues Cup group stage left plenty of positives beyond the result. The team's collective performance and several individual displays allowed Guadalajara to close this stage with encouraging feelings ahead of the weekend, and Hugo Camberos stood out in particular.

After being named the best player and leading scorer of the Concacaf U-20 Championship with Mexico's national team, the Rojiblanco academy product returned to action with the First Team and took full advantage of the opportunity to raise his hand ahead of the start of the Apertura 2026.

Camberos entered in the 26th minute following the unfortunate departure of 'Cotorro' González and played 64 minutes, during which he changed the dynamic of the match. Operating from the left wing, Hugo provided width, gained ground, and used his individual qualities to make Chivas much more difficult for the American side to press.

His ability to cut inside from the flank, combining speed, changes of pace, and dribbling, allowed him to break through Seattle's defensive line on several occasions and create danger. He attempted six shots in total and came very close to scoring an incredible bicycle-kick goal that ultimately struck the post.

His contribution, however, went beyond creating chances. Camberos completed one cross and 37 passes, 24 of them in the opposition half, while also showing effectiveness in dribbling and one-on-one situations. He also committed himself to his defensive responsibilities, recording three defensive contributions, two interceptions, and three ball recoveries.

In this way, Hugo was not only a constant outlet for attacking and breaking through the Sounders' pressure, but also contributed to the collective structure Gabriel Milito is looking to implement, showing his willingness to track back and contribute at both ends of the pitch.

The impressions left by his return could hardly be better. After an outstanding U-20 Championship, Camberos put the Rojiblanco jersey back on and responded with a performance that confirms he is ready to compete for a prominent role. The Apertura 2026 continues, and Hugo Camberos has already raised his hand.
