Hugo Duro has overcome a knock and travelled with Valencia to Mallorca for a pivotal survival fixture, with personal targets that could help push the team over the line.
According to Superdeporte, the striker trained after the Elche game and boarded the flight. In Palma this afternoon the spotlight will fall on Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi, on 21 league goals, yet for Valencia, Umar Sadiq and Duro will aim to spoil the party and take one of the two or three steps still needed to avoid trouble.
This is Duro’s most efficient campaign, with nine in LaLiga and one in the Copa del Rey, a goal every 187 minutes since arriving in 2021. He is on 10 this season, one fewer than last term and three short of his 2023/24 best of 13.
His run-in goals are clear, surpass his single-season high of 13, reach 50 for Valencia, emerge as the leading Spanish scorer behind Lamine Yamal on 15, and keep his minutes-per-goal under 200.
Duro has 46 goals for the club in all competitions. Four more would take him to 50, level with Miguel Ángel Ferrer Mista in Valencia’s historical list, and leave him two shy of Jonas Gonçalves and Vicente Asensí, both on 51.
He ranks sixth among Spanish scorers in LaLiga with nine, behind Ferran Torres, Mikel Oyarzabal, Borja Iglesias and Jorge de Frutos, and tied with Villarreal’s Alberto Moleiro. Hitting those marks could at least keep alive hopes of a Spain call for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
