Ekitike ready to link with Isak in Liverpool attack

Liverpool supporters are still waiting to see the partnership they dreamed of in the summer. Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, two strikers signed amid high-profile transfers, have yet to share the pitch. The Frenchman believes that day will come and says he is ready for it.

Strikers competing and complementing

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Galatasaray, Ekitike was asked how the pair could work together. His response was measured but ambitious. “How it works with Isak? Good question,” he said. “We play at such a big club, they cannot have only one striker, so it is good he is here, I still have a lot of things to improve and learn. That is for the coach to decide who plays, it’s not up to me. I played with two strikers before and one striker, so I can do a lot of things, so if we have to play together, I can.”

Arne Slot faces a balancing act, finding a way to integrate both forwards while keeping rhythm in the system. Isak’s record-breaking move raised eyebrows, but Liverpool also invested heavily in Ekitike, making the question of coexistence a pressing one.

Lessons learned after Carabao Cup dismissal

Ekitike’s last appearance brought drama of a different sort. His red card against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, the result of a second yellow for removing his shirt during a late winner celebration, brought a sharp rebuke from Slot. “Needless and stupid,” the head coach said.

The French forward did not shy away from his mistake. “I think it wasn’t smart,” he admitted. “I finished myself alone, I would say, so I feel disappointed to watch the boys from home. But I apologised to everyone already, my team-mates and that kind of thing won’t happen again so I move on and focus on football.”

Promise of partnership

Liverpool’s history is filled with great attacking duos, and the notion of Ekitike and Isak working in tandem will excite supporters. Both bring different qualities, and if Slot can find the right blend, Anfield may witness another potent strike force.
