Hugo Souza on call-up, may miss Corinthians derby v Santos

Corinthians drew against Internacional in a direct clash for the Brasileirão. Hugo Souza took to the field shortly after receiving a call-up from the Brazilian national team for friendlies against South Korea and Japan. In the mixed zone after the match, he celebrated the call-up.

“Each call-up that comes, thank God, is the third in a row and I want to continue if God wills, working hard so that this becomes routine. And even if one day it becomes routine, it's not possible to normalize and serve the national team because the competition is very big, I'm very happy to be called up again and I did see the coach's statement and I was very happy. Well, if it really happens to be given the opportunity and manage to play, I will be very happy, I'm ready for this, this is what I've trained for my whole life“, praised the player.

The FIFA date takes place this October and, shortly after it ends, Corinthians visits Santos at Vila Belmiro for the Brasileirão. With the short time between the national team and Timão's commitments, Hugo Souza is expected to be a loss for Dorival Júnior in the classic match.

“Unfortunately in the return match maybe against Santos I won't be able to be there because of the schedule, flight time and everything else. However, I'm sure whoever plays is more than prepared to handle the situation, whoever it is. We train a lot and I usually joke that I'm the worst of the four there, if I give them a chance they'll overtake me”

With the absence of the number 1, the substitute should be Felipe Longo, considered the immediate backup. Because of this, Corinthians even withdrew his call-up for the U-20 World Cup, which is underway in Chile, already thinking about Hugo Souza's trip to the main team.

Before the FIFA date, Corinthians is focused on the Brasileirão and climbing up the standings. The next match takes place on Saturday, 4th, against Mirassol, for the 27th round of the competition, at Neo Química Arena.
