The full-back's successful career in England started in East Yorkshire

Andy Robertson will forever be known for his role in Liverpool's successes in the Premier League and the Champions League, but he arguably wouldn't have been a part of it if not for his impressive stint at Hull City.

The Scottish left-back joined the Tigers in the summer of 2014 on a three-year deal from Dundee United. Funnily enough, he was unveiled alongside Harry Maguire, who also went on to have success elsewhere. Not a bad transfer window for Steve Bruce's side!

Robertson had spent just a year at Dundee United before his move to East Yorkshire, with Hull spending just £2.85 million on the left-back to bring him in.

Hull City's head of recruitment at the time, Stan Ternent, had masterminded a bargain with the signing of the young Scot, with the foundations of one of Europe's best left-backs being forged at the then-named KC Stadium.

Andy Robertson transfer risk was worth its weight in gold for Hull City

Bringing in a then-20-year-old full-back from the Scottish league was seen as a bit of a risk for a Hull City side who could have had Europa League commitments that season, following their club's best-ever FA Cup run, which saw them lose in the final to Arsenal.

Robertson had only just signed his first professional contract the season prior when he joined Dundee United from Scottish League Two amateur side Queen's Park.

However, an impressive first season in the Scottish Premiership, where he helped his club to a fourth-placed finish and a Scottish Cup final, was enough to get Premier League clubs knocking on the door at Tannadice Park, and Robertson was quickly entrusted with making that step up.

The full-back started just 17 Premier League games in his debut campaign as the club suffered relegation, but it was his performances in the 2015/16 Championship campaign where he began to truly make a name for himself in England.

41 league starts with seven goal contributions, as well as a key part in the Tigers' League Cup quarter-final run and a goal in the play-off campaign, which they went on to win, had him in good stead to give the Premier League a good crack once again.

A second relegation led to a profitable sale

Hull City were relegated once again the following season, but Robertson was able to establish himself as a serviceable attacking full-back, albeit with the Tigers conceding a league-worst 80 goals across the campaign after losing 7-1 on the final day to Tottenham Hotspur.

Therefore, it was time to move on for the Scotsman, and he signed for Liverpool that summer for an initial £8 million, which rose to £10 million, a decent profit on the £2.85 million that Hull departed with to bring the then-unknown full-back to England.

Robertson has been a part of many memorable moments at Anfield, both domestically and in European competitions, and plenty of Hull City fans still support him from afar, despite the two going on pretty opposite trajectories since his departure.

For that reason, it's clear that the beloved left-back was a bargain in many eyes, and Hull fans are quick to remind you that it was their club who brought Robertson to the dance before he became one of the best defenders in the world.
