According to Superdeporte, newly promoted Hull City have entered the race for Thomas Meunier, a Valencia target for right-back. The report adds that talks are advanced. Lille, a Champions League side in Ligue 1, did not offer him a new deal after appointing Davide Ancelotti.
Meunier’s contract at Lille expires in the coming days. The 34-year-old, who turns 35 in September, is at the World Cup with Belgium while weighing up options after spells at PSG and Borussia Dortmund.
“I have already had calls. Things can accelerate very quickly. I could sign with one of them today, but that is not my intention. I want to take my time, I am in no hurry. If things go well, opportunities will arise. We will make the right decision,” he told L’Équipe in late May.
Meunier joined Lille in summer 2023 as a free agent after leaving Trabzonspor, and he was a regular under Bruno Genesio, who departed at the end of the season.
Despite that involvement, he is not part of Lille’s plans under Ancelotti. Valencia remain in firm contact, and competition from LaLiga and now the Premier League is strong.
