Toby Collyer is set to be absent for a number of weeks for Hull City following an injury prior to the team’s FA Cup elimination at the hands of Chelsea.

According to Hull Live, the Man United loanee will be absent for a couple of weeks at least, in what is yet another new blow for Sergej Jakirovic’s side.

Collyer joined the club during the January transfer window, after previously spending the first half of the 2025-26 season on loan with West Brom.

The 22-year-old made 12 appearances for the Baggies in the Championship, but a calf injury prevented him from playing more regularly in his final weeks with the Midlands outfit.

Collyer made his debut for Hull on February 7 in a 3-2 loss to Bristol City, coming off the bench in the second half as the Tigers chased the game, but after just one brief outing, he's set for a period on the sidelines.

Hull City suffer Toby Collyer injury blow which West Brom fans won't be surprised with

Collyer was unavailable for Hull City selection last Friday night when they hosted Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It’s understood that a hamstring injury prevented the midfielder from featuring in what ended up being a routine 4-0 success for ex-Hull boss Liam Rosenior's side.

Collyer is now set to miss at least the next couple of weeks, meaning he likely won’t play for City again until at least early March, and it comes with both Matt Crooks and Darko Gyabi also on the sidelines with muscle injury.

However, it is hoped that Collyer could make his return against Portsmouth on February 28, should he be able to recover quickly enough.

This rules him out of their upcoming fixtures against QPR and Derby County, with the club looking to consolidate their position in the play-offs spots in the next few weeks as they sit fifth in the Championship table.

Toby Collyer setback is a blow for him and Hull City - it's just not happening for Man United man

Collyer's time out on loan from Man United was rerouted from The Hawthorns to East Yorkshire in a bid to to get regular minutes into the midfielder, and this latest injury setback is a blow to his development as a player.

Even before his injury issues, Collyer wasn't featuring regularly for the Baggies, with just three of his league appearances coming as starts, and the last one only lasted 11 minutes against Birmingham City.

It is however also a blow for Hull City, who have endured a lot of injury issues this season, which could end up hurting their chances of automatic promotion, which already took a blow last week when Bristol City defeated them 3-2 at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers remain inside the top six, but missing the likes of Collyer on top of other midfield options like Crooks and Gyabi could see the likes of Regan Slater pushed to their limits in the coming weeks.

At the very least, Hughes’ return ahead of the QPR game next weekend is a step in the right direction for the team.
