Hull City are set to complete the signing of midfielder Hidemasa Morita according to reports.

The Japan international has been linked with a move to England this summer following the expiry of his contract at Portuguese side Sporting CP.

Ipswich Town and Leeds United were touted as potential destinations however the 31-year-old is instead set to join the Tigers according to journalist Mike White of BBC Humberside.

Former Kawasaki Frontale man Morita initially joined Sporting from Santa Clara in the summer of 2022 and become an important figure in the side. The midfielder scored 11 goals and making 17 assists in 166 games for the Lions in all competitions and won two Primeira Liga titles and a Taça de Portugal in his four seasons at the club.

Despite having already amassed 41 caps for the Japanese national team but was not a part of Hajime Moriyasu's team for the 2026 World Cup. Morita had previously been critical of Moriyasu's management style in 2023 although did play for his country as recently as last year.
