Brighton will not rush Kaoru Mitoma back, with the winger to return only once he is free of doubts after his hamstring injury.

According to TheArgus.co.uk, the Japan international remains in rehabilitation after the issue that ruled him out of the World Cup, and he is not expected to be back when action resumes at Sunderland on October 10.

He has not featured since pulling up at home to Wolves late last season. The plan is for him to regain full confidence in his body, with time given before he steps up. Once that threshold is met, he will quickly become an option, and the staff trust the medical team to bring him back as soon as possible.

Mitoma has been working in the gym. There is no specified timescale for his return. He has completed the first stage of rehab and is now in the second, with signs of improvement and development.

Elsewhere, latest indications are that Yankuba Minteh could be in contention for the Wearside trip, alongside Femi Azeez and Jack Hinshelwood. Zadok Yohanna has been taken out of the first-team picture to work on fitness until after the international break, while Pascal Struijk has time to recover after a late hamstring concern in the Arsenal win. Stefanos Tzimas and Evan Ferguson remain some way off a return.
