Fabian Hurzeler welcomed Georginio Rutter’s return to the Albion line-up and said he wants to see the forward get back to his best over the run-in.
According to TheArgus.co.uk, the head coach was satisfied with Rutter’s display against Arsenal, where he started at home, initially led the line and absorbed heavy physical pressure from a robust defence. He linked play smartly and forced a second-half save from David Raya. Danny Welbeck later joined him in attack.
Rutter’s outing followed spells as an unused substitute in the wins over Brentford and Nottingham Forest.
Hurzeler said he thought Rutter performed well and that nobody should expect incredible things straight away. He felt the forward had been in a flow last season and that the aim is to help him find that rhythm again. He also noted that players are people with backgrounds who might have private issues, something he believed the public should recognise.
The head coach highlighted Rutter’s creativity in the final third, pointing to the chances and shots he produced, and said he was happy with him. He added they will keep supporting the player so he can regain his form.
Welbeck is the early favourite to lead the attack at Sunderland next time out, the club where he made progress on loan from Manchester United as a young player.
