Queens Park Rangers hit the jackpot during the summer transfer window by beating Plymouth Argyle to the signing of Rumarn Burrell.

The 24-year-old has hit the ground running at Loftus Road following his summer switch from League One side Burton Albion, with nine Championship goals to his name as things stand going into QPR's midweek clash with Birmingham City.

Looking back, the acquisition of Burrell was a real coup for the Rs, as he was reportedly signed in a deal worth just over £1 million, and there is no doubt that he is now worth far more than that following his excellent start to life in the second tier.

The Jamaica international penned a five-year deal at QPR in the summer, so QPR will hope that he can continue to be prolific for a number of years to come as they chase a long-awaited return to the Premier League under Julien Stephan.

We asked our QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, if he was shocked by Burrell's good form, and whether the likes of Plymouth Argyle, who were linked with a move for the striker, should be regretting the fact they were beaten to his signature.

"I am totally surprised, in a good way, that Rumarn Burrell is showing what he is capable of," Louis said.

"I mean, if you think back to the signing, it was totally out of the blue. There was not one single rumour about it happening.

"I didn't really know much about him. I hadn't really heard of him. It is just unbelievable, really, the kind of form that he is showing.

"Who on earth would have thought that he would be up there with the top Championship goalscorers at the moment? His form is ridiculous.

"It just goes to show you can pick these players up from the lower divisions, and if they have got the ability they can show what they are about.

"He has fitted into the way QPR play so well. He is such a poacher, and he is always in the right position. He is clearly our best signing from the summer.

"If there were any other clubs that wanted him, there were rumours about Plymouth at the time, they have got to be looking and thinking they would be lucky to have him now.

"He is so good, and it isn't just his pace. Obviously, his pace helps us massively as a team, but his finishing, his confidence — I am just so shocked that a player like Burrell who was at a club like Burton Albion has suddenly made the step-up to the Championship like it's nothing.

"It's exciting, because if he carries on at this rate, God knows how many goals he will end up with at the end of the season.

"What a signing, honestly."

One man who is less likely to be enjoying Burrell's performances for QPR is Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley, after his side missed out on the striker during the summer transfer window.

The Pilgrims bid close to £1 million for the Burton Albion star, who was said to be keen on a move to Home Park, before QPR struck a deal with the Brewers.

Now, with Plymouth sitting 23rd in League One, they must rue the fact they missed out on a centre-forward who is regularly scoring goals at the level above.

Meanwhile, QPR are reaping the rewards of winning the race for a player who not many would have predicted was going to make such a big impact in the Championship this season, especially considering he was playing for Cove Rangers in Scotland 18 months ago.
