‘I blame myself’: Besnik Hasi knows he’s under pressure at Anderlecht

Besnik Hasi returns to his former club KV Mechelen this weekend under pressure to get a result. It certainly raised a few eyebrows when, shortly after being sacked by KV Mechelen, Anderlecht brought Hasi in for a second spell. That they then decided to keep him for the 2025/2026 season was also surprising.

Speaking during the press conference ahead of the game, Hasi was under no illusions as to how much pressure he is starting to come under. That he certainly wasn’t many fans favourites has hardly helped his position. Hasi said ‘We currently have too few points compared to our status. I blame myself for that. It’s not the players’ qualities—I have to get more out of this group’.

Anderlecht have won just two of their last five games, with one of those being a 2-0 win in the cup over lower league side Ninove during the week. Anderlecht have a number of key games coming up that will highlight whether or not they are a side capable of doing something this season. After KV Mechelen, who have been playing well, the side face Club Brugge and Union St Gilloise either side of a trip to RAAL La Louviere. Club and Union are currently the top two and appear to be the main contenders for the title this season. Anderlecht, despite having won 34 Pro League titles since 1947, have not lifted the trophy for almost a decade. It is unlikely that this squad, under Hasi, has much chance of winning number 35.
