“I came to win the Premier League”: Emi Martinez vows title push as Chelsea edge Brighton 4-3 at Stamford Bridge | OneFootball

Emi Martinez has said he has signed for Chelsea to try and win the Premier League after making his debut against Brighton.

Martinez made his first appearance for Chelsea sincecompleting his £7.5m transfer to the club from Aston Villa this weekend, as the Blues beat Brighton 4-3 at Stamford Bridge.

The win continued a perfect start to the season under new head coach Xabi Alonso, with Chelsea opening the campaign with successive wins.

Reflecting on the win and his move to West London at full-time, Martinez said he has his sights set on a Premier League title success with Chelsea.

"I spoke with Chelsea legends John Terry and Petr Cech. I know how big this club is and what we want to achieve this season. I came here to help," he said toSky Sports.

"I had an amazing seven years at Aston Villa. I have come here to challenge and to try and win the Premier League.

"I trained only one day with the team. The guys have treated me really well in the last day or two. I know the talent we have up front. I try to bring that solidity in the back."

Chelsea claimed another three points in an entertaining win over Brighton, a fixture that saw the hosts race into a three-goal lead, before wobbling and coming under sustained pressure.

Alonso's side had only 26% of the possession, and Martinez said there are clear areas for improvement after a performance that 'wasn't perfect'.

"A win is a win. I know it wasn't a perfect game. But in the end, winning and moving on is what we need. We've got 36 games left and it's one week after another.

"I am here for a reason. The front three is amazing. When we go forward, we can hurt teams. We had a lot of chances to finish the game. Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro had chances to kill the game. At the back, we need to bring the goals down."
