Football pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has named the striker that Chelsea should have signed over current forward Liam Delap.

Speaking in the aftermath of Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday night, Agbonlahor says Chelsea should have signed Victor Osimhen instead of the former Ipswich star.

Liam Rosenior’s setup received a lot of criticism in the aftermath of the game, with many saying that he was too defensive and didn’t go for it early enough in the game. Although, one journalist has since come out and defended him on his approach.

One of the biggest criticisms was that he decided to play Liam Delap as a right winger, a decision that baffled us all. Delap went on to have a horrendous game of course, playing out of position and looking very uncomfortable there all game. He should have been taken off earlier or put in his more natural position earlier, but he stayed there for quite some time.

Analysing Delap’s performance on Tuesday, Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: ‘What I didn’t understand was Liam Delap on the right.

‘I could play on the wing because I was quick but if one sort of striker couldn’t play on the wing it’s Liam Delap.

‘He looked lost. He got the ball, he tried to take on Hincapie, and lost it every time.’

Should have joined Everton?

‘No, this isn’t working,’ he added. ‘I said when he joined Chelsea that I thought he should hav gone to a team like Everton.

‘Develop there for a couple of years and then make the big move to top-six side. I think the jump from Ipswich to Chelsea was too much.

‘When I look at him as a striker, I like him – he can hold up the ball well, he’s a good finisher, but he just doesn’t look sharp enough for the top level of the Premier League.

‘Someone like [Victor] Osimhen was the striker they should have gone out and got.’
