Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into the penalty-taking setup in his squad at present. This comes after the Blaugrana shook things up from 12 yards once again on Sunday.
Flick guided his troops back into action a short time ago, making the trip to Valencia for a La Liga meeting with Levante.
When all was said and done, the evening’s visitors emerged on the right side of a 4-2 result, to keep alive what has been a spectacular start to the defence of their Spanish top-flight crown.
Two goals to the good early in the 2nd-half at the Estadi Ciutat de València, Barca were afforded a chance to drive home their advantage upon securing a penalty kick.
The assumption was that captain Raphinha, from here, would go on to take responsibility from 12 yards. But instead, it was attacking partner-in-crime Lamine Yamal who stepped up to slot home in confident fashion.
Speaking to the media post-match, the subject of the penalty-taker pecking order in his squad was in turn put to Barcelona headmaster Hansi Flick.
And the German’s response proved a fascinating one, as follows:
“I don’t decide who takes the penalty; the staff decides. Whoever feels ready to take it, does it.”
