The Blues stopped a run of four consecutive defeats with a 7-0 win against Port Vale in the FA Cup last weekend, but City pose a different test all together.
Chelsea have lost their last two league games against Newcastle and Everton, and desperately need the points if they are to secure a top five finish.
Liam Rosenior’s men currently sit sixth, a point behind Liverpool in the fifth and final Champions League position.
Chelsea haven’t beaten City since the 2021 Champions League final, but did get an unexpected point at the Etihad earlier this season in the first game following Enzo Maresca’s departure.
Enzo Fernandez will serve the final game of his suspension, whilst Reece James is still sidelined with a hamstring injury, but he could return later this month.
Moises Caicedo is expected to captain the team, and Chelsea can ill afford to drop many more points, and Merson has now given his prediction.
“The next two games will define Liam Rosenior’s future at Chelsea,” he told Sportskeeda.
“I hope he plays Andrey Santos and Moises Caicedo in midfield. Pedro Neto and Estevao as the wingers and Cole Palmer in the no.10 role through the middle.
“I’ve already said this many times, Palmer should always play as the no.10. I expect Chelsea to give City strong competition in this game.
“I’m going for a draw here, which essentially means Arsenal to win the league!
“Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City.”
