Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola declared “I give up” when discussing his side’s upcoming fixture schedule.
City will travel to Newcastle for an 8pm kick-off in the FA Cup on Saturday ahead of the away leg of their Champions League tie with Real Madrid. The Spanish side, meanwhile, have had their match with Celta Vigo moved to the Friday night by La Liga.
“Recovery is massively important,” Guardiola insisted. “The rest, the sleep, the food, the training, we know how we can do it.
“Of course, when we arrive early at home, it’s better than late for the recovery. But it’s what it is.”

He continued: “In England, it’s more important what happens in the Carabao Cup than the Champions League games for the English teams.
“It happens from day one. It’s not a surprise. We don’t ask for anything. If we play at eight, we’re going to play at eight. That’s what I said.
“I don’t pay much attention to that. I can say it here. I could do that, but I give up. But not now, from a long time ago. When we won the treble and the quadruple, it was completely the same.
“I’m not a guy who calls the referees the day after to say, why did you do this, why did you do that? Never happened in 10 years.
“I know a lot of my colleagues do that. I know the colleagues from the older generations do that. I never call Howard Webb or call the guys. I’m not wasting my time on that. Nothing.
“And the schedule, the broadcasters decide because they say ‘we pay a lot of money’. Okay, well done. I got a lot of money. Thank you so much. You’re so kind. It’s that.”
Elsewhere, Ligue 1 have postponed a PSG league fixture to allow the reigning European champions to have more rest when they face Chelsea.
Guardiola joked in response: “We are more stronger and braver, quicker and faster than other leagues. And we prove, we show to the rest of the world how special we are.
“The French league should be jealous of us.”
