AS Monaco’s sale of Aladji Bamba to Newcastle United earlier in the summer gives the Principality club hope of retaining Lamine Camara. After the Senegal international’s performance against Le Havre AC over the weekend, Filipe Luís hopes that will be the case.

Camara was one of those who returned late to pre-season due to his involvement at the FIFA World Cup. However, he started in Monaco’s Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre regardless. The former FC Metz midfielder was imperious in the 1-0 win, both in and out of possession. Les Monégasques must still make sales before the closure of the transfer window, however, Folarin Balogun is the more obvious candidate to depart, as things stand.

There is a chance that Camara stays. He is, however, the subject of Premier League interest. The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea have both been linked with the midfielder. Games like the one against Le Havre will only enhance his value; the midfielder also scored a stunner in Les Monégasques’ 3-2 win over Gornik Zabrze last week.

On Camara’s performance against Le Havre, Luís said, “From everything that I saw, there is one thing that caught my eye. I have never seen that in 20 years; it’s Lamine Camara. He is a ‘different’ player from what I’ve seen so far. His ability to manage things on the pitch and his concentration. He has a level that is way, way above average.”
