Angus Gunn's contract with Norwich City is set to expire at the end of the campaign
Angus Gunn has revealed he wants greater clarity from Norwich City over his future amid the goalkeeper’s expiring contract.
The 29-year-old’s time at Carrow Road could come to an end this summer unless an extension can be agreed with the Norfolk outfit.
The Scotland international has been first-choice under Johannes Hoff Thorup this season but has been absent through injury since the team’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.
Gunn has been with Norwich 2021, joining from Southampton after the club’s promotion to the Premier League under Daniel Farke.
Gunn has opened up on his contract situation with Norwich, claiming no talks have been held over a renewal.
The goalkeeper has admitted that he would like some clarity on the situation, but he remains unsure whether he has a future with the club beyond this season.
"I've not heard anything from the club, which is a worry," said Gunn, via the BBC.
"I do get asked that question a lot but honestly I can't answer it because there's been no communication.
"I hope more than anything just for a bit of clarity really - I've got a family and I need to look to the future," he added.
"For a professional player, the main thing is to have that clarity and know where you're going to be.
"It would be nice to get that clarity one way or the other, so we will have to wait and see what happens."
Gunn has made 29 appearances in the Championship so far this season, having cemented himself as number one since the club’s relegation in 2022.
Under Thorup, the 29-year-old has kept four clean sheets and conceded 36 times in the league.
Vicente Reyes has taken the Scot’s place in the side since he injured his hamstring earlier this month, conceding four times in two games.
Up next for Norwich is a trip to face Bristol City on Friday night in an 8pm kick-off.
Gunn has proven a strong addition to the squad since his arrival four years ago, and has done well as a first-choice option in the Championship.
If he becomes a free agent, then there is no doubt he will have suitors lining up to add him to their squad.
It is surprising that Norwich haven’t been more proactive with Gunn, as he is someone worth keeping around for at least one more year, if not longer.
This injury issue may end up working out in his favour, as a poor run of form for the team in his absence could make it clear that he needs to be kept long-term.
