Concerns surrounding Ten Hag’s future at the club have been raised after a poor start to the season, with the Red Devils scoreless in their last three Premier League fixtures.

Manchester United hierarchy including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, met in London today in a pre-planned meeting but it was expected that they would discuss the current managerial situation after poor results.

That meeting concluded this evening with a Sky Sports insider Kaveh Savehkol telling us what he had heard about the crunch meeting.

Speculation on Ten Hag’s future is rife but a former Manchester United legend has given his verdict on the former Ajax manager.

Peter Schmeichel backs underfire Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag

Despite pressure building around Ten Hag’s future, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has backed the Dutchman to turn the club’s form around.

The Danish legend believes that the 54-year-old coach has had many issues to deal with during his tenure and deserves more time at the club.

Appearing on the Seaman Says podcast, Schmeichel said: “I hope they stick with Erik because we need consistency now. Let him have a fair go at this.

“He’s been hampered by a lot of things over the last two years, now he’s got his own players, let him show us what the plan is and what he can do with the football club. If that doesn’t work then maybe then we talk about a change.”

Does Erik ten Hag deserve more time at Manchester United?

With Manchester United sitting 14th in the Premier League table and scoreless in their last three league fixtures, it is understandable why he is under pressure.

Heading into his third season as the Red Devils boss, many supporters wanted to see a recognisable identity to his side.

With the majority of his squad fit compared to last season, the Dutch coach musty instantly improve his side’s form after the international break.

Erik ten Hag probably does deserve the opportunity to bed in his summer signings and improve results.

However, the concern against Aston Villa was that Hag opted to go against his normal process and drop many of the new summer recruits with only Noussair Mazraoui named in the starting XI.

It remains to be seen if the hierarchy pulls the trigger on the former Eredivisie manager in the international break, but if he does remain, he must instantly start to prove he can turn it around.
