Frustrations were high as PEC Zwolle were beaten 2-0 by Ajax this weekend. However, following the result in Amsterdam, coach Johnny Jansen wasn’t fuming at his players. The unsavoury feeling was saved solely for the game’s officials, as Ajax took the lead through Brian Brobbey, from a corner that was not a corner.
Referee Alex Bos did not see that Steven Berghuis was actually the last to touch the ball. Jansen already spoke of it as a disgrace during the match and that feeling did not change in his thoughts to ESPN afterwards. Acknowledging Go Ahead Eagles‘ previous KNVB apology received via letter, the manager hoped for the same.
“I hope that the KNVB will also send us a letter with apologies. This is just very clear. At first they said: we looked into it and it is not true. During the break, they came to us to indicate that they had seen it wrong.”
Despite his slight frustration, Jansen realised that nothing changed for PEC as his side failed to defend the set-piece. “Okay, then it’s a corner and (but) then you have to keep doing your job. (…) I don’t know the reason. But things don’t always go your way, so you have to deal with disappointments.”
