‘I Know That Tottenham’ – Spurs Ask About Star But Deal Looks Impossible | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur have asked about the situation of Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Illya Zabarnyi, but a deal looks unlikely.

Spurs have moved on from three centre-backs this summer, sending Radu Dragusin on loan to Fiorentina while selling Luka Vuskovic to Brighton and Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid.

In their place, two new centre-backs have arrived in Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, with both making their competitive debuts in the club’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford at the weekend.

Last summer, the Lilywhites wanted Zabarnyi while he was on the books at Bournemouth and were prepared to meet the asking price, but their pursuit ultimately came to nothing as the Ukrainian opted for a move to PSG.

This summer, Tottenham have renewed their interest and are among the admirers monitoring his situation, alongside another Premier League side and an Italian club.

It is understood Spurs have taken their interest a step further by making an enquiry about the Ukrainian defender, but there appears to be slim chance that a deal can happen, with PSG actually looking to add rather than lose at centre-back.

PSG insider PSG Inside-Actus wrote on X: “Among the interested parties, I know that Tottenham is one of the teams that have made enquiries.

“That said, I absolutely don’t see Paris looking to part with him, especially since they’re seeking another one.”

Zabarnyi made 26 Ligue 1 starts last season under Luis Enrique and, with the French side also in the market for another central defender, it appears highly unlikely they will sanction his departure.

Adding to the complications, Spurs have no European football on offer this season and can only provide Premier League football, something that could make it difficult to tempt the 23-year-old Champions League winner into a move.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are also closing in on reinforcements at the top end of the pitch, with Savinho nearing a move from Manchester City and Omar Marmoush set for a medical.

Spurs look poised for a busy end to the summer transfer window as De Zerbi looks to fill more gaps in his squad, with the knowledge he will not be able to make any more changes until the January transfer window.
