Luis Díaz has hit the ground running at FC Bayern in sporting terms – and has also arrived off the pitch. In an interview, the Colombian talks about trust, freedom under Vincent Kompany and his „chaotic creativity“
Luis Díaz is one of the big winners at FC Bayern so far this season. The Colombian international has not only established himself as a key player in sporting terms, but has also quickly settled in emotionally in Munich. In an interview with the English Guardian, the 28-year-old explains why the move to the Bundesliga was so easy for him – and what role coach Vincent Kompany plays in this
Starting in a new league is a challenge even for top players. For Díaz, the transition went surprisingly smoothly. He sees the club’s treatment of him as a key reason for this. „I think it’s because I was given enormous trust. From day one, my team-mates and the club made me feel welcome very quickly,“ emphasises the attacking player
Even the change in language didn’t change that. Although learning German wasn’t easy, the environment always made him feel like he belonged. „The truth is that I found a very united team at FC Bayern, where I felt comfortable – something I was always used to and always wanted,“ says Díaz. It was precisely this family feeling that helped him to develop quickly
Looking back, he sees his time at Liverpool FC as an important building block for his successful start in Munich. The last year in the Premier League, in particular, helped him progress in sport. „I wanted a challenge and to play in the Bundesliga to gain new experience. I knew I would do well,“ explains Díaz – even if his rapid impact surprised him himself

A key factor in his strong form is his role under Vincent Kompany. Díaz confirms that he enjoys much more freedom at FC Bayern. „Yes, completely. I feel more confident, more comfortable,“ he says. Despite the large number of stars in the squad, the focus is on the collective. „We have a lot of stars, but we play more together. That’s very important.“
The term Kompany found for Díaz after the match against St. Pauli is particularly interesting: „chaotic creativity“. A description with which the winger can identify. „Yes, definitely. I love chaos,“ says Díaz with a laugh. For him, that’s exactly what his game is all about: creating disorder, posing problems for defenders, being unpredictable
However, he never loses sight of the team concept. „Of course you have to do everything the coach asks of you with the necessary commitment. But I also want to enjoy it and create these chaotic moments,“ explains Díaz. It is precisely this mixture of discipline and freedom that makes him so valuable to FC Bayern
Díaz perfectly embodies the profile that Kompany wants to establish in Munich: intensity, creativity and courage. It is no coincidence that the Colombian has developed into one of the defining players in a very short space of time.
