Pep Guardiola says Oscar Bobb’s performance in Saturday’s victory over Wolves highlights exactly what City missed last season.
The Norwegian was out injured for much of the 2024/25 campaign but has returned to fitness at the start of this term and put in a sparkling performance in our Premier League opener.
He provided an assist for Tijjani Reijnders’ strike and was a threat throughout on the right wing as we put four past our hosts.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Guardiola made his joy about the Academy graduate’s return clear.
“Now I realise when I saw him in the first half and the second I realise how much we missed him last season,” he said.
“He’s sharp and quick and like Phil [Foden] with his qualities.
“I’m so happy he is back. I don’t know how long it is since he played 90 minutes maybe one year but he is so strong, so disciplined in defensive issues, incredible threat in small spaces.
“Hopefully he can be healthy. All I ask for him is to be healthy and strong in his head and I’m pretty sure he is going to help us in that position.
“He is another quality player from the Academy. In the last decade it has been unbelievable how many good players this club has created, there is an incredible team helping the Academy and I have a feeling right now in the EDS there are a lot of good players.”
Guardiola also had praise for Bobb’s fellow Academy graduate, James Trafford, who made his senior debut for City after returning to the Club this summer.
“He was in the academy for many, many years and he played his first Premier League game away, kept a clean sheet and made a good performance with good saves,” he said.
“The people love a lot to have homegrown players from the Academy playing with us. It’s nice.
