Due to the serious ACL injury that the midfielder Marc Bernal suffered, which kept him out of action for almost a year, FC Barcelona have been very careful with the youngster. Despite it being some months since he returned to availability, Hansi Flick has played him sparingly to ensure he gets back to his best level gradually.
In Saturday’s game against Real Betis, which the Blaugranes won 3-5, Bernal got to play a significant number of minutes. He came on to the pitch in the 63rd minute, replacing Pedri, and played till the end of the game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also talked to the media after the match, and expressed his delight on having won the game:
“I’m very happy with the match and the victory. In the end, we are in the first team, and that’s what is expected of being here. Having these players around and competing with them is a pride. What’s important is that we get along well with each other.”
Barcelona midfield gem also gave an update on his fitness, and revealed he is still working to get back to his best level:
“I still have a way to go to reach my level. It has been a complicated year for me. I’m now taking advantage of these opportunities and minutes to get back into rhythm and recover my best level.”
Bernal also mentioned some of his most notable strengths, and highlighted the importance of going into the upcoming UCL match in good form:
“I think I’m good at carrying the ball and breaking lines, and today I felt very comfortable, honestly. We come from a good run of form, and we have to keep it up and approach Tuesday’s Champions League match in this way.”
Hopefully, Marc Bernal will continue building on these performances to get back to his best physical level and once again showcase his talents to the world.
