‘I think even he doesn’t know’ – Atletico Madrid star uncertain about Barcelona target’s future | OneFootball

One of the major stories heading into the summer transfer window is the future of Julian Alvarez, who is one of the key summer targets for FC Barcelona.

The 26-year-old striker remains contracted with Los Rojiblancos until the summer of 2030 and is protected by a mammoth release clause worth €500 million.

Along with Barcelona, other top clubs like French champions PSG and English champions Arsenal are also interested in the Argentine forward.

Marcos Llorente unsure if Alvarez will stay at Atletico

The latest person to speak publicly about Alvarez’s situation was his Atletico Madrid teammate Marcos Llorente during an interview on COPE (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

The Spanish international began by admitting that even inside Atletico’s dressing room there is uncertainty regarding what the forward plans to do.

“I don’t know, we don’t know anything. I think that even he doesn’t know,” he said.

He then expanded on why he avoids discussing such topics directly with his teammate.

“I don’t ask him about those things. It’s a very awkward question. I don’t have the personality to approach Julian and ask him what he’s going to do, if he’s leaving or not. I still lack that ability,” he added.

Journalist Juanma Castano then suggested that his impression was that Alvarez may want to move to “a bigger club.”

Llorente did not dismiss the idea and simply responded: “Maybe.”

However, the Atletico Madrid star ended the discussion by emphasising the feeling he currently gets from the player inside the squad.

“I see him well,” he concluded.

Barcelona want Alvarez to make a move

Despite recent links to Joao Pedro of Chelsea, Barcelona still consider Julian Alvarez their primary target to reinforce the centre-forward position.

However, given the complications expected in the deal, they want the Argentine international to make a gesture in order for them to press ahead with talks with Atletico Madrid.

For now, Barcelona are not planning to rush things and will evaluate all possibilities carefully before acting.
