Their respective comments had been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks. In a recent interview with France Football about the upcoming Ballon d’Or ceremony, Kylian Mbappé (27) took the opportunity to explain that he had always been perceived as “the chosen one”, whereas his team-mate and friend Ousmane Dembélé (29) had, for his part, “always been seen as a talented player”.

To which the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner responded by explaining that he had “always been at the back of the class working hard”, without saying a single word. A situation that quickly led observers to speculate about a possible cooling of the relationship between the two World Cup winners.

However, Mbappé was quick to dispel these rumours in an interview with L’Équipe. “I’ve already spoken to him about it; there’s no tension. I don’t think there’s really any problem there – I’m completely at ease,” explained the French national team’s number 10, on the sidelines of the France squad’s get-together, during which he will be reunited with Dembélé.

“But during Nations League and France squad periods, people always seem to find something to talk about, and I think this one’s been well chosen,” he added, with a smile.
