‘I understand’ – Valencia star Duro agrees with Real Madrid fury after disallowed last-gasp winner | OneFootball

Valencia star Hugo Duro has moved to defend his counterparts at Real Madrid, on the back of the meeting between the two clubs on Saturday night.

As much, of course, comes on the back of one the most chaotic endings to a La Liga fixture in recent memory.

With the scoreline locked at 2-2 deep into injury-time at the Mestalla, Brahim Díaz whipped a wonderful delivery across the face of the Valencia penalty area.

And the Spaniard’s ball was met with an equally fine header on the part of Jude Bellingham, who, with the very last kick of the game, appeared to have snatched all three points for Real Madrid.

All, however, was not as it seemed.

As Bellingham wheeled away in celebration, it became clear that his goal had in fact not been allowed to stand.

Why? Referee Jesús Gil Manzano had blown the full-time whistle mere milliseconds before the ball connected with the head of Real Madrid’s top scorer.

A post-match fracas, in turn, inevitably ensued, with both goalscorer Bellingham and defender Antonio Rüdiger having been shown red cards for their protests.

As alluded to above, though, one individual who has full sympathy for Real Madrid’s livid stars on the back of proceedings coming to a close at the Mestalla, comes in the form of Hugo Duro.

Speaking to the media post-match, former Blancos talent Duro, who opened the scoring in the clash, admitted that he too was left bemused by the actions of referee Gil Manzano:

“I understand why Real Madrid are angry.

“You should either blow the whistle before the cross or after the cross. I don’t understand why it took the ref so long to blow it.”
