Bayern candidate Nico Schlotterbeck is leaving his future at Borussia Dortmund open – and is now sending a clear signal with a statement
An interview with the 26-year-old suggests that his sporting ambitions could play a decisive role in determining whether he remains loyal to BVB in the long term
Dortmund would like to settle the personnel matter early on. The club management is said to be offering the centre-back a central leadership role and a top salary in order to tie him down beyond the summer of 2027. But Schlotterbeck apparently feels no time pressure. One reason for this is that the international first wants to see a realistic prospect of winning titles – and that is precisely what he is thinking about
A sentence that Schlotterbeck chose in the interview format „Ungesagt“ on Prime Video is particularly eye-catching. In it, he makes it unmistakably clear what he is currently missing: „I have the goal of winning a championship in Germany – we were close to that. The Champions League is very difficult to win – we were close to that too. I was also close in the DFB Cup. I have only won the U21 European Championship as a professional footballer. I want to hold something in my hand now.“
These words underpin the assumption that Schlotterbeck’s sporting future is strongly linked to his chances of winning titles. And this is precisely where FC Bayern comes into play. The Munich club has long been rumoured to be interested and offers – at least at national level – by far the greatest prospect of regular championships

At the same time, it is clear that BVB are under no immediate pressure to act in the short term. Schlotterbeck is still tied up until 2027 and Dortmund formally hold the reins. Nevertheless, the situation could change quickly if the player continues to focus on his title ambitions and attractive options open up – such as a transfer to FC Bayern.
