Derby County manager Paul Warne has revealed that he was hoping that Norwich City would sell Josh Sargent in the summer, but as a boyhood Canaries fan, he is happy that they kept him.

The 24-year-old centre forward is a key part of Norwich’s squad and last season scored 16 times in his 28 league appearances as the Canaries reached the playoffs.

Sargent has already scored twice this season and Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup will be counting on him to score goals when his team face Derby at the weekend.

This summer, Warne was keen to add strikers and brought in players like Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates, and he revealed that he was hoping Norwich might be willing to sell Sargent in the summer.

Warne, who is a boyhood Norwich fan, also stated that he is happy that the Canaries decided against parting ways with their main man Sargent in the summer.

“They have Sargent up front, who is obviously a very good player”, Warne told Rams TV.

“From a Derby point of view I was hoping they were going to sell him in the summer.

“And from a Norwich point of view I was quite pleased they kept him.”

Derby have yet to lose a game at Pride Park this season and they will be hoping to get the better of Norwich on Saturday.
